Cases and examples

A broad variety of electric an electronic equipment is collected for re-use, not only computers and mobile phone, but also electrical motors and circuit boards. Connecting with a re-use company will most likely give you more value for your obsolete electronic goods.

Case: Electric motors

Electric motors are collected in the Netherlands as copper-containing scrap. Electric motors are also collected for refurbishment or repair. The latter option generates more income for the company disposing the electric motors and the repairing/remanufacturing company (ACE Wikkeltechniek). However, many clients do not know that collection of disposed electric motors is possible and is payed more, than collection by scrap dealers for recycling. ACE proposes that infrastructure should be built to inform industrial businesses of the option to collect disposed electronics for reuse and not (only) for recycling. This information could be distributed by a market place where disposers can find a remanufacturer that offers more for disposed electronics than a scrap dealer.

Case: full service

Copiatek collects obsolete ICT-equipment. The company attracts customers with two propositions: charity and the “full service” of taking care of all equipment; functioning and non-functioning. Functioning equipment is sold, but also partly distributed to low-income families/persons. ICT-equipment fit for refurbishment is selected by personnel which had poor chances on the labour market.
